It had to be quick; time was of the essence. Columbia was falling further into ruin behind her. The flames of her beloved home in the clouds licked the starless black sky. Screams of children, men, and women pierced her ears and trembled to shatter her focus. Booker's voice assured her from nearby that they could make it; to hurry. Oh she had to hurry. "I-I'm trying!" she panted, her eyes sealing closed as she felt the energy pull together and press between her palms and lacing her fingers. The sensation was great once she found the trace in the worlds, like two magnets rejecting to embrace no matter how hard to tried to press them together.
With a shattering cry, the once fabled Lamb of Columbia was able to pull open the invisible door that linked her's to another. A horrible whooshing sound collided all around her; sucking the ash infected air into the new world.
"Booker come on!" she yelled, turning her attention from the fresh wound in the world to the man she saw as her guardian and protector. Her eyes were wide with fear and newly broken innocence. Daring to release her hold on their way out she reached out and grabbed the man's rough hand and pulled him through.
The last thing she saw from the window of Columbia was the flames engulfing the clock tower. The building's needle holding still in the sky as though the line itself reached for heaven. As the tear fused itself together her eyes stayed stuck on the hands of the large clock, waiting for them to move. But time in Columbia had frozen.

Elizabeth trembled in her sleep. The nightmares always slipped in through the cracks of her calm dreamless states making her replay the scene of leaving over and over. Booker learned quick not to leave her side when she slept because not long after she would wake up crying and shaking looking all around for him. Once it'd driven her to the dirty dark streets of the place they currently resided. This place was called Rapture, and inside the dome under the sea there was a civil war.
Her fingers gripped the man's shirt, holding a fist full of material as she rocked. Suddenly she was able to break free from the dream. Eyes snapping open she sat up straight and whirled her head around taking in the surroundings of the abandoned loft they'd claimed for themselves since they'd arrived several weeks ago. The dashes on the nearby wall counted how many days, but Elizabeth began to think it was pointless to keep track. It was her fault they were here and couldn't leave. She'd lost her ability to open tears. After Columbia she'd become quite the mute; only speaking to Booker and giving strangers a few nods.
She didn't even remember the last time she'd smiled.
But she did know, however, that she belonged by Booker's side. The man could've easily left her after Columbia; there would be no police, no identity to the two, no media. But instead he stayed and continued to protect her. She was beginning to believe she loved him.
"Booker.." she breathed out after a series of heavy pants. She knew it was a nightmare but the process of calming down always tired her further. She closed her eyes and held her shaking hands, noticing how her fingers hurt from staying curled for so long. "Would you hold me? ... Please?"
With the new DLC out now I felt the urge to write as Elizabeth.
My dearest friend writes as Booker and perhaps I'll post up their adventure through this...slightly AU storyline of the two in our favorite Rapture.
-- OH, my version of Elizabeth and Booker aren't related. --
